Kebabs make for a great meal any time of the day because of their simplicity. All you need to do is thread your desired ingredients onto some skewers, place them in your preferred kitchen appliance and wait for your yummy meal to be done! And there are so many recipes out there to make that you’ll never have to worry about eating the same boring recipe. There’s anything from breakfast skewers, to a variety of meat and veggie kebabs and even some dessert skewers, like Strawberry Shortcake Skewers with Blueberry Glaze. If you weren’t already sold on wanting to get up and make some of your own kebabs – what if we told you making them in one of our Air Fryer Ovens was even better?!
First off, using an air fryer is already healthier, because you won’t need to use any unhealthy grease or oils. Your cooking and prep time will be cut down drastically, because let’s face it skewers are so easy to make and using an air fryer doesn’t require as much cooking time as a regular oven. And with our included skewer rotisserie set, you thread your desired food onto the skewers and attach to the rotisserie plates, insert into your air fryer oven and voila! And the best part is, the air fryer rotates the skewers on its own, so no need to keep checking on or flipping your food.
For these kebab recipes, we used our Air Fryer Oven Ultra and the Vibe Series Air Fryer Oven. The Vibe Series has 11.6 quarts of cooking space while our Air Fryer Oven Ultra has a little more room with 12.7 quarts of space. All of our Air Fryer Ovens come with a skewer set. If an Air Fryer Oven is too big for you then take advantage of our 5.3 Quart Air Fryer that has a kebab set where you can still enjoy some tasty skewers!
Spicy Cumin Lamb Skewers
*made in the Air Fryer Oven Ultra
These are known for being the most traditional skewers in China. Utilizing lamb for any recipe is ideal, because it is high in protein, vitamins and minerals. If you aren’t fond of lamb, feel free to replace them with chicken or beef. For the most flavorful, tender and juicy skewers, don’t trim off the fat from the shoulder chops. These kebabs are on the spicy side, with chili flakes, cumin seed and fennel seed. Feel free to increase the amount of chili flakes to make it even spicier! Different grinders that can be used for grinding spices are a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder or micro plane. The original recipe called for Shaoxing wine, but pale dry sherry works great as a substitute if you can’t find Shaoxing wine. Our skewer rotisserie set worked out perfectly for these but use your own wooden or metal skewers too! These tasty skewers can be cooked in an air fryer, air fryer oven or electric grill!
Ingredients:
1 tbsp red chili flakes
1 tbsp cumin seed
2 tsp fennel seed
1 tsp kosher salt
2 tsp granulated garlic
1 ¼ lbs. lamb shoulder chops, cut into 1 inch pieces and bones discarded
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp pale dry sherry
Directions:
In a mortar and pestle grinder, coarsely grind the chili flakes, cumin and fennel. Add the granulated garlic and kosher salt and briefly grind to break into smaller pieces. Thoroughly combine the ingredients together.
Reserve 1 tablespoon of the spice mix in a small bowl. In a large bowl, add the lamb slices in and toss thoroughly with the remaining spice mix, oil and wine.
Place the seasoned lamb slices onto the skewers and place in the Air Fryer Oven. Using the Rotisserie setting, air fry the skewers at 340°F for 10 minutes.
When the skewers are nearly cooked through, sprinkle the reserved spice mix (optional) on them and let them finish cooking.
Remove the skewers from the oven and serve immediately.
Italian Chicken Skewers
*made in the Air Fryer Oven Ultra
We utilized chicken and bread, but you could make this a fuller meal by adding veggies to the mix. French bread complimented the other seasonings and chicken nicely, but feel free to incorporate a different meat or bread! Other bread options you could try are brioche, ciabatta, or sourdough. It is important to refrigerate your skewers to allow them to marinate to ensure all of the flavors are captured. We took advantage of our skewer rotisserie set that is included with our Air Fryer Ovens, but you could also use your own skewers. If you don’t yet have an Air Fryer Oven, cooking your skewers on a grill will do just fine too.
Ingredients:
1 lb. skinless and boneless chicken breasts, cut into large cubes
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp tomato paste
¼ cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp fresh Italian parsley, chopped
1 French baguette, cut into cubes
Directions:
Season chicken with salt and pepper to taste.
In a medium sized bowl, combine the tomato paste, olive oil, garlic cloves and chopped parsley to make the marinade. Add the chicken and marinade to a Ziploc bag and toss to fully coat. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Skewer your chicken and bread. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Using your Air Fryer Oven, place your skewers in the appliance and use the rotisserie setting. Air fry the skewers at 400°F for 10 minutes.
Garnish with parmesan and parsley and enjoy!
Mexican Beef Kebabs
*made in the Vibe Series Air Fryer Oven
These traditional Mexican skewers are also known as Alambres. They are simple, because they only include a few ingredients, like onion, green peppers, bacon and beef! If you aren’t fond of beef, utilize another choice of meat, like chicken or pork. You could always switch up the peppers and onions and select purple and sweet onions or poblano and Anaheim peppers! If you use your own skewers for this, make sure to soak wooden skewers in water 1 hour prior to using. You can enjoy these skewers by themselves or wrap them in warm tortillas or add side dishes, like guacamole or salsa!
Ingredients:
1 ½ lb. rib eye, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 ½ tbsp vegetable oil
salt and pepper to taste
½ medium white onion, cut into 1-inch cubes
1 green pepper, cut into 1-inch cubes
3 thick slices of bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 red pepper, cut into 1-inch cubes
Directions:
In a medium sized bowl, place the meat, salt, pepper and vegetable oil and toss to mix together.
Thread the meat and vegetables onto the skewers, starting with the onion, green pepper, bacon, meat, red pepper and onion again. Repeat until all of the ingredients are on skewers.
Using your Air Fryer Oven, place your skewers in the appliance and use the rotisserie setting. Air fry the skewers at 400°F for 10 minutes. Serve with warm tortillas, spicy salsa and creamy guacamole!
Greek Chicken Kebabs with Tzatziki Sauce
*made in the Vibe Series Air Fryer Oven
These Greek Chicken kebabs go perfectly with the fresh and tangy flavor of the Tzatziki sauce. If you aren’t fond of the vegetables we used in our skewers, then feel free to switch it up and add in different colored bell peppers, lemons, tomatoes or Brussel sprouts! We utilized our Air Fryer Oven for this recipe but using a traditional oven or grill for kebabs is ideal, as well. If you use wooden skewers, be sure to soak them before using them. When making the Tzatziki sauce, just peel the cucumbers, slice them half lengthwise and spoon out the seeds to make your prep time go faster. Only use a blender or food processor for the cucumbers if there is excess liquid needed to drain off.
Ingredients:
1 ¾ lbs. boneless skinless chicken breasts, diced into 1 ¼ inch cubes
¼ cup + 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
3 tbsp lemon juice, fresh
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp dried basil
½ tsp dried thyme
½ tsp dried coriander
salt and pepper to taste
2 large red bell peppers, diced into 1 ¼ inch pieces
3 small zucchinis, sliced into ½ inch thick rounds
1 large red onion, diced into 1 ¼ inch wedges
Tzatziki Sauce:
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded and chopped into chunks
1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
2 – 5.3 oz. containers plain Greek yogurt
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tbsp lemon juice, fresh
1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
Directions:
In a bowl, whisk together the ¼ cup olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar, garlic, oregano, basil, thyme, coriander and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix to combine.
Place the chicken in a Ziploc bag and pour the olive oil mixture over the chicken and press the chicken into the marinade. Refrigerate for 30-45 minutes.
While you are waiting for your chicken to marinate, drizzle and toss the veggies with the 2 tablespoons of remaining olive oil. Season lightly with salt.
Thread a red bell pepper, red onion, zucchini and 2 pieces of chicken onto each skewer and repeat twice. Repeat until the skewers are full.
Using your Air Fryer Oven, place your skewers in the appliance and use the rotisserie setting. Air fry the skewers at 400°F for 10 minutes.
While you are waiting for your skewers to cook, prepare your Tzatziki sauce. Start with placing your diced cucumber in a mesh strainer, sprinkle with salt, toss evenly to coat and allow to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Rinse the cucumbers and squeeze some of the excess liquid out from the cucumbers. Place the cucumbers in a blender and pulse to chop finely. Then, pour the cucumbers into a mixing bowl and add in the rest of the sauce ingredients, whisking to combine.
Store sauce in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
Low Country Boil Skewers
*made in the Vibe Series Air Fryer Oven
This tasty dish is perfect for any season of the year and is ideal for a hearty lunch or dinner. We utilized hot sauce to achieve that spicy flavor that would also compliment the sweeter flavors of the recipe, from the lemon juice and butter. If you don’t have crab boil seasoning on hand, then feel free to use something similar, like Old Bay seasoning. It is important to drizzle the lemon wedges and reserved sauce at the end of cooking to ensure your meal stays juicy! This recipe is so versatile that it can be cooked in a traditional oven, air fryer, pressure cooker or even grill. We utilized our accessory set in our Air Fryer Oven, but you could also use your own wooden or metal skewers. Enjoy these skewers by themselves or with a side of hot cornbread! These kebabs are easy enough to make that you can save them for later or for another day as a meal prep recipe too!
Ingredients:
6 baby red potatoes
salt to taste
2 tbsp crab boil seasoning
1 ear of corn, shucked and cut into 1-inch rounds
4 tbsp butter
3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp cider vinegar
10 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
8 oz. smoked pork, sliced into ½ inch thick rounds
lemon wedges, for serving
Directions:
Add the potatoes to a saucepan and cover with cold water. Add in salt to taste and 1 tablespoon of the seafood seasoning. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are tender, 10-12 minutes. Then, add in the corn in the last 5 minutes. Drain the water and let cool.
Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is foaming, add the garlic and sauté until fragrant. Stir in the hot sauce and vinegar. Then, remove from the heat and reserve half of the dressing.
Divide and thread the shrimp, sausage, potatoes and shrimp again onto your skewers. Brush half of the glaze onto the shrimp.
Using your Air Fryer Oven, place your skewers in the appliance and use the rotisserie setting. Air fry the skewers at 320°F for 10 minutes. Serve the skewers with lemon wedges and drizzle with the remaining sauce.
